Robert “Bo” Hedges is an active member of the Canadian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team, first making the team in 2007. Through that period Bo has competed in three Para Pan American games in 2007, 2011 and 2015. Winning a bronze and two silver medals. He also competed at three Paralympic games winning gold in London 2012, silver in Beijing 2008 and 11th in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
First discovering wheelchair basketball at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre in Vancouver, B.C. Bo later witnessed a demonstration game in his native Fort St. John, prompting him to form a local club team of his own. He began playing wheelchair basketball competitively in 1996 and first competed for Canada in 1997, winning the first of two gold medals with the Canadian Junior Men’s team. Two Canada Winter Games experiences while playing for British Columbia in 1999 and 2003 helped prepare Bo for the next stage of his international career.
Attending the University of Northern British Columbia, Bo completed a Bachelor of Commerce Marketing. In preparation for the London 2012 games he moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Training while going attending the University of Alabama. There he received a Master’s in Sport Management.
Bo’s commitment extends beyond the court. He is an active volunteer, coach and mentor for younger athletes and he is always eager to give back to sport and his community. He is currently serving as chair on the board of directors for the British Columbia Wheelchair Basketball Society and is a director on the AthletesCAN board as well.
