Joel Waterman, a native to Langley, BC, grew up playing soccer for Aldergrove Youth Soccer, Langley United, and Surrey United Soccer Club. He attended Trinity Western University where he completed a degree in Media and Communications. After university, Joel was drafted 14th overall by Cavalry FC (Calgary, AB) in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) and has since moved into the Major League Soccer (MLS) where he currently plays for the Montreal Impact.
When not playing soccer, Joel loves music, fashion, and reading all kinds of books. His family, still based in Langley, includes his mom, Vicki, his dad, Trent, his brother, Nick, and twin sister Kailey.
Joel sought out KidSport after being introduced to our organization through a teammate in Calgary. He later learned that he was a KidSport recipient in 2005 when his mother fell sick.
"I wanted to get involved because I have benefitted from the generosity of the KidSport program. Now that I have a platform, I want to help KidSport reach more kids who may be in the same situation as I was and I want to inspire them to follow their dreams through sport."
