The Peters and Pilon Celebrity Golf Tournament for KidSport has been a significant event in Saskatchewan since 2006, and has exceeded its goal to raise over $1,000,000 to help children of families facing financial obstacles participate in community sport programs. However, after 12 successful years, Marty Peters, Chair of the Peters and Pilon Celebrity Golf Tournament, announced that the event will no longer be held.

“The KidSport funds raised from this event have allowed many kids a chance to play sports,” explains Dorothy Josephson, Chairperson, KidSport Saskatchewan. “Those funds have put a smile on young faces, and have provided children and youth with the opportunity to lead healthier, active lives. All of the money raised, remains in Saskatchewan, and that translates into thousands of children, youth and families in our own communities achieving physical, social, intellectual and moral development through participation in sport.”

“Behind the scenes of the tournament have been several dedicated and productive committee members that successfully administered this rewarding event year after year,” recognizes Josephson. “I would like to extend my sincerest thank you to all of the past and present committee members, and praise them for their time, commitment and calling to help kids in sport. It is people like you who help make organizations like ours flourish and grow, helping to generate money that allows us to expand our programs, resources and—most important—opportunities for more Saskatchewan kids.”

Many will remember this tournament as being a fantastic event featuring sports heroes and coaches, such as: Gordie Howe, Henri Richard, Yvan Cournoyer, Denis and Bobby Hull, five of the Broad Street Bullies and Stanley Cup Champions, Eddie Van Impe, Bernie Parent, Dave Shultz, the “Hound Dog” Bob Kelly, Orest Kindrachuk, Bryan Trottier, Clark Gillies, Bob Bourne, Billy Smith, Lanny MacDonald, Terry O’Reilly, Gerry Cheevers, Darryl Sittler, Wendal Clark, Mike Babcock, Cassie Campbell, Colleen Sostorics, Dana Antal, and Carla MacLeod.

Garry Peters and Rich Pilon are the founders of the Peters and Pilon Celebrity Golf Tournament. Since both had played in the NHL, they knew how sport enhances the quality of a child’s life, and they wanted a way to provide the benefits of sport to kids who might not otherwise have that opportunity. As a result, they decided to partner with KidSport Saskatchewan as a way to raise funds to make that happen. Fast forward over a decade and one million dollars later, Peters and Pilon successfully accomplished their goal, and have help thousands of Saskatchewan kids experience the joy and benefit of sport.

“We are very appreciative for all of the help we received over these past years in order to make a difference, So All Kids Can Play!” commends Marty Peters, Chair, Peters and Pilon Celebrity Golf Tournament. “A successful event needs many hands, and we have been fortunate to have hundreds of volunteers dedicate their time and talents to help us organize the tournament, various sponsorship and prize donations from businesses and corporations, many NHL legends and special guests/speakers, and of course, numerous supportive Saskatchewan golfers. We are so fortunate to have partnered with so many people to help us execute Garry Peters and Rich Pilon’s dream to help kids participate in sport.”
