KidSport Saskatchewan is driven by volunteers. During National Volunteer Week, we will celebrate more than 300 amazing community members that work KidSport daily to ensure no kid is left on the sidelines. Each day during National Volunteer Week, we will feature a different volunteer from across Saskatchewan to say ‘Thank You’ and inspire others to give back. #SoALLKidsCanPlay

How did you get involved with KidSport Saskatchewan?
I first became interested in KidSport, while I was serving on the Sask Sport Board.  I felt KidSport’s mission echoed the “Sport It’s More Than A Game” slogan.  Once my term on the Sask Sport board was complete, I eagerly volunteered to become involved with KidSport Saskatchewan.

What is your role with KidSport Saskatchewan?
I serve on the Provincial Adjudication Committee. I am proud to see the number of Local KidSport Chapters rise. Our monthly provincial meetings allow me to see the ongoing needs of the families and the dedication of the coaches and volunteers throughout Saskatchewan.

What is the best moment you’ve experienced while volunteering for KidSport?
I feel rewarded anytime I attend a KidSport fundraiser, activity or watch a youth activity when I know KidSport is giving kids the opportunity to participate, learn the games and how to cooperate and work together.

Why do you volunteer for KidSport?
I volunteer for KidSport because the need to have young people involved in an activity, any activity, continues to grow in our city. Sport is one of those activities that allows young people to be a part of something bigger. They learn confidence, self-assurance, and the knowledge of what it means to be part of a team.

How long have you volunteered with KidSport?
I have been involved with KidSport for 10 years.

Why should someone consider volunteering for KidSport?
I take every opportunity to tell people the difference it makes in your life when you realize you are making a difference in the lives of hundreds of kids. When I tell people that every penny we raise goes to helping children participate in sport, they are surprised, impressed and want to a part of it.

What is the best moment you’ve experienced while volunteering for KidSport?
My fondest memories are those of the young people who come to speak each year at the fundraising activities about their involvement. Their speeches are inspiring, yet humble. I always come away feeling we are doing something really good.

Why do you volunteer for KidSport?
I wanted to give back to the community and I am passionate about sports.

Why do you think KidSport is so important?
Growing up, I participated in as many sports as possible, and I didn’t realize that some could not because of financial barriers. Just like our mission: I believe no kid should be left out.  Sports are extremely important to our culture and help teach youth important life skills.

Why should someone consider volunteering for KidSport?
It is important to have youth involved in sport for many reasons – but mainly… we have fun as a committee!

What is the best moment you’ve experienced while volunteering for KidSport?
When a parent, or better yet a kid, says how thankful they are that they had the opportunity to play a sport, and that they would not have without KidSport!

How long have you volunteered with KidSport?
9 years…ALREADY ;)

Why do you volunteer for KidSport?
I understand the importance of participation in sport, and that all kids should have the chance to play.

What is the best moment you’ve experienced while volunteering for KidSport?
Assisting with filling out KidSport funding applications at schools with the parents and their kids. The appreciation and excitement of kids having a chance to be involved in sport is amazing! All committee members should have a chance to do this to appreciate the importance of the work they do.

How long have you volunteered with KidSport?
I have volunteered for KidSport for four years.

Why do you volunteer with KidSport?
As Knights of Columbus, we strive to provide for those in need, especially youth. KidSport, like Knights of Columbus, does just that; so we as members see helping and working with KidSport is the perfect fit for both of our organizations.

Is there a highlight or memorable moment from your volunteer work with KidSport that you can share with us?
One moment that particularly stands out was when we were helping youth get set up with hockey at our warehouse and the youth were going through the hockey sticks and picking out their special stick. The looks on their faces when they found a new stick with a special curve. Moments like that are very fulfilling and meaningful.

What would you say to others to encourage them to get involved with KidSport?
Come out give it a try and you will find many hands make the work light. You will see it is very rewarding working with people who enjoy helping youth.

Why was it important for Robertson Stromberg to become involved with KidSport?
Many of the lawyers and staff at Robertson Stromberg play sports or have children in sports. Robertson Stromberg believes that children learn more than athletics through sports. Many of the skills learned by young athletes prepare them to not only be better employees but better people.  Time management, teamwork, giving and receiving feedback, setting goals, respecting the rules of the game are just some of the skills that kids will learn when given the opportunity to participate.

Why is it important for local companies to encourage employees to volunteer or support volunteerism?
Volunteering has many benefits. Volunteering corporately increases productivity and cooperation as well as allows staff to showcase a different set of skills than those used at work. Volunteering provides companies the ability to have a direct impact on the community in which they operate.

Why would you encourage community members to volunteer?
Volunteering is a great way to make connections with people; interacting with new and/different types of people develops people skills and a new network of connections. Volunteering has an impact on your life as well as the lives of those who are benefiting from your efforts. Robertson Stromberg recognizes that many of the activities and initiatives that so many people benefit from in this province need volunteers to make them happen. That is why Robertson Stromberg has made a commitment to helping organizations in Saskatchewan, such as KidSport, increase its capacity to thank and recognize its volunteers.

Why do you volunteer for KidSport?
To ensure programs like these continue.

Why do you think KidSport is so important?
Everyone deserves a chance to participate in sport.  Providing opportunities when they are kids increases the chance that they will continue a healthy, active lifestyle into adult life.

What is the best moment you’ve experienced while volunteering for KidSport?
I love the Gift of Sport campaign.  Having individuals offer their hard-earned money to help someone else is a great treasure.

How long have you volunteered with KidSport?
I have volunteered for KidSport for over 10 years.
