About KidSport Ontario
KidSport™ is a grass roots Canadian non-profit organization that provides support to under-resourced children and youth 18 years of age and under by removing financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sport. KidSport provides financial assistance to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
KidSport is about Kids…Success is measured by the number of children who have been helped as a result of KidSport's initiatives and supporters.
KidSport is about Fun…The primary goal of children’s sport programming should be that each child has so much fun that they can’t wait to play again next season!
KidSport is about the Future…All kids should be given the opportunity to develop healthy lifestyles, no matter the financial, physical or language barriers that may exist! Staying physically active helps encourage children to maintain healthy habits throughout their whole lives. The challenges that come with playing sports also teach children valuable life lessons and skills including leadership, practice, hard work, dedication and self confidence.
KidSport increases accessibility to sport for under-resourced kids by:
1.Providing financial assistance to individual families for registration and sports equipment costs
2.Providing local sport introduction opportunities for kids to discover their athletic passion
3.Advocating on behalf of the value of sport for kids and communities
4.Building key athlete, corporate, and community relationships that increase sport opportunities
In Ontario, KidSport includes a provincial office and 20 volunteer community chapters. Each community chapter is led by passionate volunteers who believe that sport and its benefits should be every child’s right. All of the chapters work directly with the families that are facing barriers to their child's participation in organized sport within their catchment. To find out if there is a chapter in your community visit Find a Chapter.
The provincial office provides resources and support to the community chapters and ensures that every family in the province can apply for assistance so that no child is left watching from the sidelines simply because their family couldn't afford the cost to play.
