Team KidSport Winnipeg


Desiree Scott, Soccer, Utah Royals & Canadian Women’s National Team 

Desiree Scott, 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Pro Soccer Player with Utah Royals and member of the Canadian Women’s National Team - was also a KidSport kid. She has often stated that KidSport kept her on the pitch and without it - she would have missed out on playing and many of life’s experiences. It’s her desire to give back and assist other girls and families in similar situations so they too can experience all that sport has to offer and the simple joy in participating. Desiree runs an annual soccer camp in support of KidSport Winnipeg.


Doug Brown, CFL Hall of Fame,Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Washington Redskins

Doug Brown, retired Winnipeg Blue Bomber Defensive Tackle, played in both the CFL and NFL.  He competed in 3 Grey Cups and was a CFL All Star 8 times. Doug has seen first-hand numerous players on teams that had to overcome financial hardships and obstacles to compete in sport and how dramatically their lives were changed and impacted because of participation in athletics.  Doug has been a KidSport Winnipeg Athlete Ambassador since 2011 and every spring holds a football camp for all kids in Manitoba who have been funded by KidSport to play football.



Colin HodgsonColin Hodgson, Team McEwen

Colin Hodgson throws lead stones for Team McEwen. He is a three time Manitoba Provincial Champion and was named a First Team All-Star at the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier. Colin has been recognized for his postive and infectious attitude on and off the ice, including receiving the 2020 Ross Hartsone Sportsmanship Award which was awarded by a players vote. Colin has been praised for the time he spends with future Brier hopefuls following his games, no matter the end result. 


Thomas Miles, Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Thomas Miles is a linebacker for the Blue Bombers, where he helped the Blue Bombers defeat the Hamilton Tiger Cats for their first Grey Cup victory since 1990! Thomas has already made a significant  impact in our community. He has been apart of the Bomber's Tackle Bullying program, as well as the Break the Silence on Violence Against Women program. Thomas has made appearances in many schools across the province to help promote literacy and mentors young athletes in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Youth Football Club.  


Shannon Birchard, Team Einarson

Shannon Birchard throws second stones for Team Einarson. Shannon is a two-time silver medalist at the Canadian Junior Championships as well as a two-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts Champion. She was named a First Team All-Star at the 2020 Scotties where her team won the title. She was selected as a 2019 Women of Curling Calendar model and donated the proceeds of the calendar to KidSport Manitoba. Shannon believes that sports teach so many valuable life lessons and is happy to get more kids involved in organized sport.
