Team KidSport Winnipeg

KidSport Winnipeg has a number of sports ambassadors.

Mark Scheifele, Hockey, Winnipeg Jets

Scheifele played junior hockey with the Barrie Colts in the OHL and with the St. John's Ice Caps in the AHL.  He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and has represented Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships twice, winning a bronze medal in 2012, and most recently at the World Championship in 2014.  Currently a top six forward with the Winnipeg Jets, Scheifele is setting his sights on helping get more kids off the sidelines. For the last two years, Mark has hosted a two-day hockey camp and golf classic in support of KidSport Winnipeg.

Desiree Scott, Soccer, Utah Royals & Canadian Women’s National Team

Desiree Scott, 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Pro Soccer Player with Utah Royals and member of the Canadian Women’s National Team - was also a KidSport kid. She has often stated that KidSport kept her on the pitch and without it - she would have missed out on playing and many of life’s experiences. It’s her desire to give back and assist other girls and families in similar situations so they too can experience all that sport has to offer and the simple joy in participating. Desiree runs an annual soccer camp in support of KidSport Winnipeg.

Doug Brown, CFL Hall of Fame,Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Washington Redskins

Doug Brown, retired Winnipeg Blue Bomber Defensive Tackle, played in both the CFL and NFL.  He competed in 3 Grey Cups and was a CFL All Star 8 times. Doug has seen first-hand numerous players on teams that had to overcome financial hardships and obstacles to compete in sport and how dramatically their lives were changed and impacted because of participation in athletics.  Doug has been a KidSport Winnipeg Athlete Ambassador since 2011 and every spring holds a football camp for all kids in Manitoba who have been funded by KidSport to play football.
