Give a Little, Help a Lot
Annually, Loblaw Companies Limited (Real Canadian Superstore and Extra Foods) runs a nation-wide charitable campaign called Give a Little, Help a Lot to help kids in need. This year the campaign runs from June 24 – 30 and provides customers shopping at Real Canadian Superstore or Extra Foods across the province with the option of donating to KidSport™ Manitoba.
Donations are used to help less fortunate children cover the costs of sport registration fees and equipment. Remember KidSport™ when you do your grocery shopping from June 24-30. All donations are appreciated and will go a long way in helping children from low income families in Manitoba.
Winnipeg Youth Help KidSport™ Kids
Three Winnipeg secondary schools have chosen KidSport as one of their charities to support through the Youth in Philanthropy Program (YiP). YiP is a program designed to introduce local high school students to philanthropy and community development. The program provides hands-on experience that benefits both participating students and local charities.
Through support from The Winnipeg Foundation, KidSport Manitoba received donations from the YiP committees at both Mennonite Brethren Collegiate and John Taylor Collegiate. Gray Academy of Jewish Education also generously supported KidSport through YiP support received from the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
Thank you to all the students on the Youth in Philanthropy committees for selecting KidSport Manitoba as one of your charities to support, and for making such a significant difference in the lives of Manitoba’s kids.

Doug Brown Football Camp in Support of KidSport Winnipeg Announced for April 16, 2011
KidSport Winnipeg and Winnipeg Blue Bomber Doug Brown have announced plans for the second annual KidSport™ football camp to take place on Saturday, April 16, 2011.
The announcement comes after Brown was recently named KidSport Winnipeg’s Champion Spokesperson.
"This is a great opportunity to not only lead a cause with tremendous benefit to many of Winnipeg's young aspiring athletes,” said Brown, “but also as a chance for my teammates and I to teach some lucky kids the finer points of football."
The camp will be for any athlete who received funding from KidSport in order to play football in 2010. Brown – along with other members of both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Manitoba Bisons football teams – will teach kids the technical aspects involved in football while also providing examples of valuable life lessons and other important skills such as leadership, practice, hard work, dedication and self-confidence.
“Doug and his Blue Bomber teammates are generously giving the gift of time and knowledge to the camp. We know the kids will benefit from this and have a great experience on the 16th,” says the chair of the Winnipeg Region KidSport Committee, Angie McCaughan.
KidSport is a national charity administered by Sport Manitoba that provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport. KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports.
Winnipeg Blue Bomber Defensive Tackle Doug Brown Named Champion Spokesperson for KidSport™ Winnipeg
KidSport Winnipeg is thrilled to announce that Winnipeg Blue Bomber Doug Brown has been named the Winnipeg Region’s KidSport Champion Spokesperson.
Brown has been a mainstay on the Bombers’ defensive line since 2001 following a four-year stint in the NFL. In his career, Brown has been a leader both on and off the field and has generously donated a great deal of time to various organization and charities throughout the city of Winnipeg.
“Being chosen as the Winnipeg KidSport™ Champion Spokesperson is an honour” said Brown. “This organization is wholly focused on removing barriers for kids to participate in sports which is something everyone should be in support of.”
The chair of the Winnipeg Region KidSport Committee, Angie McCaughan, is looking forward to having Brown act as spokesperson for the charity.
"We're excited about our new partnership with Brown and the entire Winnipeg Blue Bomber organization," says McCaughan. "Brown is a great role model and we know this will enourage more kids to participate in sport."
Winnipeg Blue Bomer Alumnus Dave Donaldson partners with KidSport™ Winnipeg to begin Inner City Youth Football Program
KidSport Winnipeg is pleased to announce it has partnered with Dave Donaldson in implementing the Inner City Youth Football Program (ICYFP). The ICYFP is a grassroots level football program brought to children in the inner city who have been unable to participate in football due to limited access and the inability to afford the financial costs associated with it.
The after school program will run from March 21st – June 20th, 2011. Donaldson’s team of coaches and guest mentors includes former CFL coaches and players as well as current Winnipeg Blue Bombers; Buck Pierce, Lamar McGriggs, Markus Howell, Kelly Butler, Dave Duncan, Don Burrell, Rick Henkewich, Keo Craver and Dave Easley.
“Our mentors will encourage participation, teamwork and discipline in a fun and safe environment. With the help of KidSport™ we will be able to facilitate an after school program that will keep our kids active and engaged in a positive environment,” says Donaldson.
The chair of the Winnipeg Region KidSport Committee, Angie McCaughan, is looking forward to the program: “We’re excited about our new partnership with Dave Donaldson and believe that the ICYFP will introduce children to the fundamentals of football and teamwork” says McCaughan. “Dave is a great role model and we know his program will ignite a passion in children for sports.”
