All kids deserve the opportunity to learn the valuable life lessons of leadership, practice, dedication and self-confidence that naturally accompany organized sport. Unfortunately, the cost of sport is increasing and continuing to be a major barrier for families to access organized sport.
For many sports, registration fees alone can exceed $500 per participant. To help families overcome these financial obstacles KidSport Vancouver is pleased to announce it has increased its grant maximum to $500 per athlete per season of sport - up from $250.
“It is with great excitement that we are able to increase our grant maximum this year to better support youth in our community, “says Neil Smith, chairperson of the Vancouver chapter. “This is a direct result of the outstanding efforts of our volunteers and support of corporate sponsors and Sport BC. Collectively, we are passionate about removing financial barriers so all kids can play #KSV500.”
Through a confidential application process, KidSport Vancouver provides financial support for children aged 5 to 18 by paying registration fees directly to sport associations on the applicant’s behalf.
KidSport Vancouver is a part of a community based sport-funding program established by Sport BC, in 1993. Since inception in 2009, the Vancouver chapter has now raised $800,000, which will support over 3,000 kids to play a season of organized sport.
