From April 15 to 21, Volunteer Canada and KidSport BC celebrate Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers during National Volunteer Week (NVW). This year marks the 15th year Volunteer Canada has delivered the campaign in partnership with Investors Group, a longstanding supporter of NVW and Canada’s corporate leader in volunteer recognition.
KidSport believes that it truly takes a village to raise a child and our 42 community chapters are driven by incredibly passionate volunteers who, together with sport clubs in their communities, have a shared ownership in ensuring that no child is left on the sidelines. Our network of volunteers is more thank 300 strong and we want to take this opportunity to thank each and every volunteer who is committed to flying the KidSport flag and strengthening their community through sport.
Created in 1993 by Sport BC as a program to support families challenged by the rising costs of sport registration fees, KidSport had modest success in its first year and generated roughly $50,000 and helped approximately 300 children. In 2017, KidSport BC distributed $1.95 million to over 7330 kids. KidSport has charitable status as a registered Canadian amateur athletic association and in BC, and since its inception, KidSport BC has issued over $11 million in grants to 48,000 kids.
