The skies were grey and the rain fell for the first time in months to kick off the 8th annual Ritchie Bros Corporate Kids Challenge for KidSport on September 9th. The spirits of the 20 corporate teams was not dampened however, and while it rained on the parade of competitors, the skies cleared just in time for the competition to begin! Fueled by burgers from our partners at Triple Os, the teams were ready to rock!

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Multiculturalism Ravi Kahlon took the opportunity to announce the provincial government contribution of $400,000 to KidSport for 2017 while  ?? welcomed the crowd of competitors and Team KidSport athletes on behalf of our hosts.

Our Team KidSport athletes were “drafted” onto their corporate teams for the day and the entire entourage set off for the competition venue, led by flag bearers Evan Dunfee and ??

As always, teams came dressed in attire appropriate for the theme of the event and Canadiana was in abundance to celebrate the 150th birthday of our great nation. Canadian tuxedos and plaid shirts were the fashion choice of the day and a guest appearance from a couple of hosers that looked remarkably like the Mackenzie brothers from SCTV fame kicked off the festivities.

A full day of Canadianized sport challenges was  enjoyed by our teams, highlighted by the ever popular Lip Sync battle. Once again this year, Team KidSport ambassador and national women’s soccer coach John Herdman displayed his eye popping dance moves to the sounds of Maestro Fresh Wes. A post soccer career move to Dancing with the Stars should definitely be on the radar!

After an exhausting day of competion, the good folks at GWL Realty Advisors emerged victorious and took home the coveted “Sorry We Won, Eh” hardware! All enjoyed a fabulous meal put on by the Hilton Metrotown and liquid refreshments from our friends at Red Truck to replenish the incredible amounts of energy expended on the field of play!

Thanks to an incredible wine wall, dozens of silent auction items and a stellar array of live auction items, the final tally for the day exceeded $144,000! Thanks so much to all of our competitors, our amazing volunteers and most importantly to our hosts Ritchie Bros!. There is no finer example of corporate giving than the passion, dedication and generousity displayed by the good folks at Ritchie Bros. We look forward to next year!
