KidSport Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows, best known for their financial sponsorship over the years of children in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows who want to play sport but who cannot afford to join, has reached an agreement to become the Host organization for another well-known local program – Operation Red Nose.
“We are excited to form this new partnership with Operation Red Nose,” said Gary Manson, Chair of KidSport Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows. “Our Board of Directors voted unanimously to become the local Operation Red Nose Host Committee after being approached by Operation Red Nose volunteers. We are pleased that our application has been approved by the national Operation Red Nose Program headquarters in Quebec.” KidSport will provide administrative assistance, work closely with the local volunteer committee and recruit local businesses and organizations to get involved and help provide support. Marie-Chantal Fortin, Operation Red Nose National Development Coordinator added “We’re happy to welcome KidSport as a new local host organization for Operation Red Nose in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. We’ve been working with KidSport for a number of years in one other BC community and we know that campaign proceeds will help local children take part in organized sports. KidSport’s mission is closely linked to our mission of encouraging youth and amateur sports through financial support.”
Operating each year from the end of November until the end of December, Operation Red Nose provides safe rides home to motorists who don’t feel fit to drive for whatever reason in their own vehicles. Having become recognized as a community holiday tradition, Operation Red Nose is entering its 11th year in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows having provided nearly 4,000 safe rides home.
Several businesses and organizations have already signed on for the 2018 Operation Red Nose program including Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News, Ridge Meadows RCMP, ICBC, Raincoast Business Advisors, and Sure Print & Copy Maple Ridge.
KidSport has been operating in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows since 2009 and has provided funding for over 1,000 children. It believes that no child should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports. Operation Red Nose’s mission is to make roads safer during its seasonal Operation Red Nose program and beyond by providing safe rides home through their network of volunteer drivers. Money raised will go to KidSport Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows to support its work of providing financial assistance to families in the community wanting to register their children in organized sports activities.
