Board of Directors
The Greater Victoria KidSport™ Board of Directors is made up of a group of committed volunteers, all of who have a passion and belief that sports are beneficial to children for their health and personal development.
Patti Hunter, Manager
Patti is one of the three co-founders of KidSport Victoria and is still very involved as Manager of our local chapter. She is a former Past President of BC Recreation and Parks Association, past board member of Sport BC and has spent her career in recreation/sport management including 2010 Legacies Now, and YMCA-YWCA’s in Canada. She has a consulting company that facilitates board governance training and strategic planning for a variety of organizations.
Sandy has been working in the Recreation profession for many years, and has worked for a number of organizations including the YM-YWCA and several municipal recreation departments. She is currently the Manager of Recreation for West Shore Parks and Recreation. She is returning to the Kidsport Board after previously serving on the Board for 10 years.
With a career in advertising and creative communications Archie has been applying his expertise and experience to assist in marketing for KidSport since 2008. Formerly of Calgary he makes Victoria his home in retirement but does not live in a retirement home. Best parts of Victoria? Very laid back and he doesn’t have to shovel the precipitation.
Bruce, an accountant and volunteer since 2011, was born and raised in Victoria. He has worked for over 25 years in finance, specifically in the public education sector, supporting many government programs and worked with stakeholders whose goals include reducing financial barriers and increasing access for kids and young adults. Combining a lifelong passion for sports and his professional experiences, the goals of KidSport are a natural fit.
Larry is a Chartered Accountant with Grant Thornton LLP in Victoria. Larry relocated to Victoria after obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan. Larry believes in the value of sport for all youths since it helps build important life skills that can be transferred to all aspects of life. He is involved in various volunteer positions such as the Victoria Cool Aid Society, City Green Solutions, and the MacDonald Park Fastball Association. He also enjoys staying active in a variety of physical activities including hockey, baseball, skiing and golf.
Jill Shaw, Executive Director
Jill’s personal and professional background in sport, health & wellness made KidSport a natural fit. She joined KidSport in 2012, and has since moved into a leadership role within the organization. She continues to be involved in other consulting projects, with organizations including the University of Victoria, and Sport for Life, and enjoys making positive, mutually beneficial connections between KidSport and others she encounters at work and at play. She is passionate about KidSport’s efforts across the country, So ALL Kids Can Play! Jill has been based in Victoria since 2002 and loves the opportunity to now introduce her two daughters to the many organized and non-organized recreational opportunities available on the beautiful West Coast.
Donna’s professional career has been in Human Resource Management, but it was her lifelong involvement in sports that prompted her to join the KidSport Victoria. She had previous volunteer experience as sport registrar, coach and manager and is keen to ensure that all kids have the opportunity to play, build friendships and become engaged in their community.
Andrea Carey is the owner of Concentric Consulting Inc. and is a passionate and committed sport leader in Canada. She holds a BA in Leisure Service Administration and a MEd in Leadership Studies. Andrea has a 15 year background in the business of sport, fitness and recreation and brings a passionate and enthusiastic commitment to her professional and volunteer roles. She shares her time and expertise to volunteer roles as a Board Director for the Canadian Paralympic Committee and for KidSport Victoria. She was named as a “One to Watch” on the CAAWS list and as one of Women of Influence Magazine's top 25 most influential women in Canada and was honored with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for her dedication to the paralympic movement.
Amrit has been a supporter of Kid Sport for almost 10 years. He grew up in Victoria playing various organized sports and sees the tremendous value of sport in children’s lives. Volunteering on the board allows him to give back to a community that has given him so much.
