KidSport Edmonton's 2017 Year-in-Review has arrived! Check it out HERE
2017 was a year of change for KidSport Edmonton as we said goodbye to Liz Herbert who sat on the Board of Director’s for 6 years followed by her not-so-part-time work as the Executive Director for 4 years. Under her leadership, KidSport Edmonton saw a huge growth in the demand for the Grant Program and in that time, thousands of kids were impacted, and thousands of dollars were distributed, allowing sport to become a reality for many kids within Edmonton. Thank you, Liz, for your inspiring hard work and continual dedication to helping make it, ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’
Towards the end of the year, the new full-time Executive Director, Dayna Hyman, moved north from KidSport Calgary to join the Edmonton Team. We also said goodbye to Paula Gladwin who spent 3 years with us, building memorable relationships with the sport clubs and families that we work with daily; thanks for your hard work! We later welcomed Terri Tumack, into the Program Manager role and along side KidSport Edmonton’s long-time-staffer, Janine Helland, we’re all excited to step up to the plate and tackle 2018, making it another impactful year for the kids in our community.
The office that holds 2.5 staff could not be supported without the outstanding volunteers who sit on our Board of Directors, The Fund Development Committee, The Bids for Kids Committee and support our general events, in addition to the generous donors, committed community partners and Ambassadors. At KidSport Edmonton, we are forever thankful that Edmontonians see, understand and want to do something about ending poverty in our city through providing access to sport for kids who come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Who otherwise would not have the opportunity and would miss out on the potentially life changing side effects that sport can have on a kid’s life.
In 2017, with the community’s help, we provided access to sport for 3,179 Edmonton kids and distributed over $566,000 community donor dollars back into the community to support registration fees at local sport clubs, organizations and schools where the KidSport kids participate in sport.
We have seen a 20% growth in demand for the Grant Program year to year since 2015. Meaning, in 2018 we are on track to fund over 3,500 kids and will need $800,000 to make sport a reality for all kids who dream to play. So, lace up with us as we take on 2018 and help us, help the kids in our community access sport!
