Growing up in Mission BC, Liz spent majority of her childhood learning karate at the local Dojo. Karate taught Liz respect, focus, discipline, physical literacy and confidence! She understands how important it is to create a space where kids can be themselves and learn about goal setting. 8 years filled with tournaments, weapons training, and a training trip to Okinawa Japan Liz obtained her Black Belts in Goju Ryu Karate-Do. This foundation of martial arts allowed Liz to pursue other athletic endeavours, in her late teens/early 20s, such as short track speed skating and bobsleigh. Sports gave Liz the opportunity to travel, compete, and connect with people across the country. Accepted into the University of Calgary Disability Studies program, Liz was able to smoothly move from Mission to Calgary because of the welcoming sports community.

Today, Liz has her Disability Studies degree and is back in a Dojo instructing and training in Shotokan Karate. She is going for her third black-belt. Her focus is to make martial arts inclusive while teaching the values that will help kids be the best versions of themselves.

Why KidSport? There are so many great lessons in sport that kids can learn that a classroom just can’t teach! Sports also provide opportunities to travel and experience other parts of the world. Liz believes every kid should have access to these wonderful benefits.
